A Modest Proposal

Jonathan Swift wrote the quintessential satire, "A Modest Proposal," in which he recommended that the Irish eat their babies.  This would be, he argued, a way to address the nutritional deficits brought on by the potato famine, as well as overpopulation.

Every high school student reads the essay, is grossed out, and thereby learns about satire.

I'm going to assume that
THIS is the modern day interpretation of Swift's "proposal" in light of the nation's current economic downturn.  Because, if it's not, I'm afraid.  Very, very afraid.
