Stepping on Bossy's Toes

I know that this is, traditionally, Bossy's turf.  I will try to do this topic justice.

We need to talk about John Cusack.  Specifically, the movie
High Fidelity.  Which might be one of my favorite 5 movies of all time.  Get it? Top 5?  If not, see the movie.

It was on cable the other night.

My list:

Who the hell is the woman who played
Laura?  Has she ever been in anything else?  Her accent is weird, but she's good.  She should be punished for those bangs.  Bad bangs!

Jack Black's finest work.  Prototypical.  Everything else he's ever done, including School of Rock, is derived from this character.

John Cusack is adorable.

Don't you get the sense that
Catherine Zeta-Jones IS the character she plays.  All about herself?  Vain?  Insipid?  Self-impressed?

I love
Dick.  Dick is fantastic.  I can't get enough of Dick.

John Cusack is adorable.

Joan Cusack makes me wish that I were a Cusack so I could have dinner with her and John.

The Top 5 thing is so appealing.  How I love a good list.  Almost as much as I love Dick.

The song at the end, Stevie Wonder's "I Believe" is amazing and sweet and romantic.

The entire
soundtrack makes me wish I listened to more music.

Laugh out loud funny.  Especially when Dick slams Ray in the face with a telephone.

John Cusack is adorable.

Universal Truth:  Love isn't always fireworks.  Real Love is the love about which you can say, "It's just good."

Top 5 movies starring John Cusack:

High Fidelity:  "Songs at my funeral: "Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff, "Angel" by Aretha Franklin, and I've always had this fantasy that some beautiful, tearful woman would insist on "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" by Gladys Knight. But who would that woman be?" Rob Gordon

Say Anything (How I loathe that Ione Skye and her weird underbite):  "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."  Lloyd Dobler

Grosse Pointe Blank:  "I was sitting there alone on prom night, in a goddamn rented tuxedo, and my whole life flashed before my eyes. And I realized finally, and for the first time, that I wanted to kill somebody. So I figured since I loved you so much, it'd be a good idea if I didn't see you anymore. " Marty Blank

Being John Malkovich:  "I've fallen in love, and this is what people who've fallen in love look like."  Craig Schwartz

Runaway Jury - AND Rachel Weisz AND Jeremy Piven AND Gene Hackman

Bonus:  The Sure Thing
Second Bonus:  The Grifters

May I ask why Better Off Dead is NOT on this list? Sheesh.

I love Cusak. Great scene in Say Anything when he asks the guys if they are so cool and good with the ladies why they are sitting at a gas and sip at 11:00pm on a Friday night. "by choice man" classic moment for a grown man with fond rememberances of years gone by. Eight Men Out and Stand By Me were very small parts but great contributions from him.
