"Looks Like Someone Has a Case of the Mondays!"
Why I Am A Hyperactive Control Freak
...The desires of the heart are as crooked as corkscrews,
not to be born is the best for man:
the second best is a formal order,
the dance's pattern; dance while you can.
Dance, dance, for the figure is easy,
the tune is catching and will not stop;
dance till the stars come down from the rafters
dance, dance, dance till you drop...
--W.H. Auden

well, I came with anticipation to see what the WRH would have to say about last evening's ill conceived, BBC-ized, silly production of MP. (You see, I am much less kind than the WRH). Fanny was simply unlikely, with too many teeth and the kind of big hair which just wouldn't have happened in Jane Austen's world. The other characters were caricatures of something although I'm not sure what. I couldn't actually find any redeeming features in it. Pretty but insipid and lacking conviction. But in their defense I think all Jane Austen productions are simply an expression of our modern yearning for what we imagine to have been a more enticing and attractive world... which it actually wasn't. So complicated!
